"Capella"
1972 Mariner 31, Hull# 147
Owners:Jim Fisher - Cedar Rapids, Iowa - USA

Capella is a 1972 Mariner 31, s.n. 147. Ship has had four owners with the first owner making two trips to Japan to inspect construction prior to delivery with delivery being by ocean transport. I was told the first owner was a retired Navy Officer who passed away before he could enjoy his ship and it was sold to the second owner, John Burkhardt, jr. of Mundelein IL. Mr. Mundelein sailed Capella for five years until selling in 1979 to Chad Hensley of Des Moines who sailed her on Lake Rathbun IA until 1997 when I bought the ketch. I sailed her one year, towed her to Wichita Lake Cheney (a fine sailing lake) then back to Iowa, not having put her in water since the first year. Sitting on a triple axle trailer near Cedar Rapids for the time being. I'm getting the urge again and time to do some work. I've let her slip a bit but not too far. Engine hour meter under 1000 hr. Need two main mast spreaders (got any?) and some work but not far off from water. Maybe next year or soon after. I need the relaxation of a solo sail again. I was a rookie when I bought her and had no problem single handing her on Rathbun (admittedly not the ocean!). Really just an easy ship and relaxing. Here are two photos and the documentation cert from back when. More when I get better organized (just moved).
