We (John & Louise Bye) purchased "Promise" in Marina Del Rey, CA in May 2002. She was previously named "Agatha" and her original owner kept her in Beals Island, ME for most of her life. The owner's son trucked her to CA about 3 years ago. Promise is a 1973 Mariner 32 (hull # 48) but has the spoon bow of a Marine 31. Promise is now docked in Holiday Harbor in San Pedro, CA. We have been upgrading and modifying her to suit our needs. The original owner had already had the deck aft of the cabin replaced as well as the engine (Betamarine 28HP diesel). Since we bought her we have done the following:
- New bottom paint and boot stripe
- Installed a teak & holly cabin sole
- Installed new upholstery, pillows, curtains
- Installed 35 # CQR anchor and Lofrans Royal manual windlass
- Installed solar panel
- Varnished interior
- Installed AM/FM/CD (with MP3 capability)
Future plans include: SSB, Radar, portable Honda generator, & other cruising gear, some running rigging rigging, maybe standing also
We just took her on a shakedown cruise for 6 days to Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands and she performed beautifully. We need to fix some deck leaks around the chainplates.
