"Lark"
1972 Mariner 31, Hull# 153
Owners: Philip Raffee & Lois James - Oceanside, CA - USA
We've owned "Lark"
for over 10 years; and have sailed her extensively throughout Southern California.
She spends at least 2 months per year in various coves in Catalina. Five years
ago, I was dismasted when the main port lower chainplates separated below
the deck.. The carrier determined the cause was "oxygen
starvation" caused by inferior stainless steel and a poor design. I was
able to find a new wood mast from an old Cheoy Lee ketch and replaced all
chainplates with exterior products from Schaeffer. In addition to the main
mast and chainplates, I replaced the original Perkins with a Westerbeke 35D,
shortened the mizzen and raised the mizzen gooseneck about 13 inches to accommodate
a bimini. -- The boat is berthed
in Oceanside CA just across from another M31--KeLuina
