When I purchased Windrush
II she needed lots of work. I ended up replacing a good amount of the deck,
about half of the cabin roof and sides, replaced 5 planks above the
waterline. I also had to repair the
main mast as it was rotten where the spreader block was. The bow sprit also had
rot issues and had to repair it in several places.
The Taft rail and
spindles had to be completely replaced along with the bulwarks from the bow to
the stern. Basically everything form the deck up had rot issues. In the Galley I had to
replace the counter top and teak molding and part of the bulkhead behind the
galley
The floor of the head was
rotten along with part of the cabinetry which I replaced all of it and installed
new fixtures and shower hardware.
On the Electronics side,
I replaced all the original wiring, the old home made panel to a new Blue Sea DC
and AC panels, new Raymarine radar and GPS displays. In addition I added a new
Furuno SSB, Furuno Fax 30 and a VHF with DSC and GPS capability.
The old Perkins 4-107 was
leaking and tired, so I repowered with a new Yanmar 3GM30 which pushes it along
just nicely at 5 knots.
The wood heater was
replaced with a new diesel Dickinson Newport Heater along with a Red Dot heater
plumbed to the engine cooling system.
The rigging was in decent
condition, but replaced all the halyards and job sheets
We are now ready for our
first offshore sail to California and beyond.
