This is an updated report on Champagne. She was purchased near Cleveland in 2007. The previous owner had taken very good care of her, and so nothing was seriously wrong. Just some safety issues and updating some electronics and wiring. For example, we have converted her over to LED lights and added a chart plotter and new stereo (I can now plug in a USB flash drive and play the stereo for 8 hours with no breaks). The design, I have since found out, is based on an L. Francis Herreshoff H28, so it is very similar to over proven boats such as the Bermuda 30 and Cheoy Lee. Built at Far East Yachts in 1968, she was one of the last wood 31 footers built.

The specs are: 31ft LOA, 10ft beam, displacement is 18,000lbs, draft is 4'8". She has her original 20 hp Albin diesel. She has been in fresh water for at least 20 years, and so there is very little corrosion below decks. We replaced the original 40 gal steel fuel tank with a new 26gal poly tank, refinished the teak deck, and purchased a new 140 Genoa jib.

Her new home is Sodus Bay on lake Ontario, where we cruise every chance we get. Under sail she will move faster than the engine can drive her, 7-8 knots is common, occasionally 9, while the engine will max out at 7.
